He emphasizes the central role that the relationship between architecture, individuals and society assumes as a result of the collective traumas generated by destructive and devastating events, such as an earthquake that sows material rubble and generates fragments in affections and social bonds. It starts from the idea that reconstruction cannot be limited to the restoration of functionality but must become an operation of rebalancing and that it must be based on a collective and individual parallel plan. The project proposes a critical reflection on what actions can be promoted and how they can be made possible in the difficult transition period between the abandonment of L’Aquila and its reconstruction, taking into account that to bring it back to life it is not enough to rebuild but it is necessary to repair ties, relationships, economies and ecology.
Yard of thought on the future of vulnerable cities
1 - The “People meet in l'Aquila” section is set up inside a tent, a temporary space, an evocative place of reflections and proposals designed for the transition period between the abandonment of the city and its reconstruction, a consultation of ideas on the recomposition of the trauma generated by the separation between the space of the city and its inhabitants. the temporary character of the tent helps to underline the building site connotation of this space, designed to produce a serious creative effort, of reflection and elaboration of ideas to transform the expectation of reconstruction in a moment of proposal full of energy and future. Architects, artists, photographers, writers and the world of culture generally give life to a first moment of confrontation and reflection, a sort of unfinished factory, in motion that continues to welcome ideas, proposals, personal contributions throughout the period of the biennial, offering a space for open, critical and creative participation. The material displayed is regularly updated to underline the building site character of the event.
